Daimyo John Priest: Humanity’s most dangerous sales rep (part 2)

5 Mar 2010

Strategy: War is a booming market!

John Priest belongs to the latest generation of heroes who bring humph and personality to an AT–43 company. He’s got style, he’s tough (but not invincible) and his presence can change the tide of battle. Things are never dull when he is around.
Starting with John Priest on foot. An officer wearing a trench coat, holding a laser rifle in one hand and carrying a briefcase in the other, now that’s quite the unusual sight. What is a sales rep doing on a battlefield? Let’s consider the fact that he gets to join any infantry unit and he packs a Cog forcefield. See where we’re heading here? The Cog forcefield: It costs 1 LP to use. It provides 3+ cover anywhere, even out in the open. It’s a pain, but there are ways around it such as indirect fire or a sniper shot…However, ONI armies are not Cog armies: ONI forces include far more fighters! John Priest is able to provide shelter to a large bunch of zombies just long enough to get them in contact. Or else he might choose to protect the advance of an already brilliant and versatile ONI korps unit. Or maybe tag along with a powerful but precious TacArms commando.

Daimyo John Priest: Humanity’s most dangerous sales rep

1 Mar 2010

Design: Priest, a hero you’ll love to hate

His name is banal yet symbolic. Mothers want him for their daughters but you know he is bad to the bone. John Priest is certainly ONI’s most emblematic character.
John Priest was born in the first minutes we discussed the overall design of ONI. Everyone at the Rackham Entertainment editorial meeting smiled in agreement as we described his attitude, his clothing and his function. Like ONI, this guy is the unholy son of financial scandal, uncontrolled speculation and the economic crisis.

The truth is Priest is even older than ONI. Everybody has known him from a long time: this is the kind of guy who started off forcing grannies’ doorways and is now buying off the poorer countries debts by taking over their natural resources for a symbolical (Avan) dollar. You and your friends already blamed him. You called him names the first time you found out about credit card fees. You heard his name on TV during the credit crunch. He is the embodiment of capitalism. Priest is more than a monster: he works in finance.

But John Priest is not only a face, he also come with game effects!
