Aarklash Warpack: Whatwebeplayin'?

18 Jun 2010

We chitchat but in the end, no one told you what armies would be ready for the field test of our brand new game system.
Let's start at once by killing a rumor which spreads out like plague in a middle age city. No dwarf nor devourer, no cynwall elves nor cadwallon mercenaries. You want to know why? Because we've gone fully painted plastic because we want an EASY ACCESS and USER FRIENDLY product! I shout because there might be some people with cotton in their ears who might keep asking when they will be able to take their metal minis, you know, the ones they pinned, glued and painted with love and patience and then put on the highest shelf of the cupboard to protect their treasure from the youngest ones I mentioned before.
I let my 1 year old girl play with a Mid Nor dwarf. You don't wanna see the result, believe me. As if Mid Nor dwarves needed to look even more like crap!
Aarklash Warpack is made for a younger audience or gamers who lack a lot of time. Not for modelling lovers who must have plenty of time in their hand. Anyway, considering the price of lead and tin metals nowadays, we sold our stock to a famous scrap dealer.

What was I saying already?
Which armies?
Let's start with armies of Light and their most famous ambassador… The Lion! Never released before troops, emblematic incarnates, the best heavy cavalry of Aarklash (Gosh, I hope you didn't figure it all out yet…). Forces of Light at their utmost strength, with a gameplay based on movement and strategy. Well, brutal strategy, but that has to count, right?

That's one. As I've been keeping you in the blur for almost two months in a row now, you already know there will be three armies for starter. You are also aware I'm a sadistic person who likes to drop information little by little.
If the plan comes together correctly, you should have developed sleep disorder, 2 ulcers and at least one heart attack just because of the suspens we built along the weeks. You reasonably expect that I won't unveil what the other two armies are here.
Dang. Missed again. We're even weirder and sadistic than you thought.

The second army, inevitably, is Lion's nemesis: Ram.
A slow one, but beware of getting in range of these reanimated corpses. Those who're not yet at range won't fare much better, considering the overpowered wizards Acheron loves so bad! Although for the moment, we don't plan on new releases but variations on already existing ones…

The last army… I won't say anything about it, but it's furry and it bites hard. Woooooohooooo!!!

To be continued...

brainc40

are you defending R because you love them so or you work for them?

the "letter" is very childish...

the R's product has truly went to crap... losing alot of fans... this CANNOT be denied...

turn away from your Silly ways R... quit trying to sell us your Plastic spraypainted Crap... then making a new game...only to sell left over stock of old stuff already made... what do you take us for? you can spray paint a turd purple but it's still just a turd...

don't keep reinventing yourself... you never needed to... you had us... then lost us... maybe this set of replies should open your eyes... NONE OF IT IS POSITIVE!

No ones Hyped up about The "new" game... every one keeps saying the same thing... funny

at the end of the day... who really has cotton in their ears... more like a little kids with his fingers in his ears saying LALALALa I cant hear you.... LALALA I cant hear you... but you can read... are you reading this... do you read dakka or warseer or table top gaming news... do you read what the fans say?

Rackham are YOU listening...

make nice metal models... for a decent system... watch them flock back... watch you sales increase...

or keep you fingers in your ears and go bankrupt while riding the spay painted, Cheap Chinese plastic PURPLE high horse.

I don't work for the company, but I like the games they made with plastic pre-painted miniatures.
I love strategy games and miniature battles, but I'm not in the hobby due to lack of time and skill ... and money!
I often see, with great admiration, some incredible well painted models that are very close to "works of art", really .... but in the end it's Rackham-Entertainment that gave me the product closer to my needs, so you can consider me an happy customer.
Finally, I don't see the "childish" letter as a problem; it's the author's own style, very direct and full of enthusiasm. .. after all, games with tin soldiers are not so "mature", isn't it?

WOW

Wait ... the pre painted (by Chinese slaves) miniatures are works of art? you mean the new Rubber models? I hope not... they have less detail, the swords bend, the paints all over the place...

or the stuff they used to make? the detailed metal models..

and they fill your gaming needs? like finished toys right out of the box type of thing? I guess that is O.K. if you have no time to work on the other aspect in the Hobby... the Hobby part... this whole thing is funny... and you stink of employee/investment/interest... like a magicians plant in the audience, "and do I know you sir? No. . . no you don't."

it matters not... maybe some new costumer will come walking through he door any minute now....
any minute.........................
any minute.........................................

Brainc40's message clearly said that he has seen work of art miniatures, but they are not the product that he wants.

2 Jul 2010

Well, I guess they've made it clear that they don't want to win their old customers back. How many neophytes are finding their way to the Rackham Studio blog, though?

Most game shops won't carry their products any more, but they're still making these obvious attempts to end up on Wal-mart shelves? It would be sad if it wasn't so infuriating.

WOW

Rackham...Rackham...Rackham...

you took a great product and made it crap... you couldv'e been a contender against G.W.

now your the laughing stock of the gaming world... your company has maybe 1-2 years tops before it completely tanks.. you lost me when you started making your figs out of rubber and spraypaint...

my advice... be smart about it and listen to the forums listen to what the audience is saying make metal and resin models and stop tryin to get the "kids" involved... you could still regain you fans with some effort and maybe taken the cotton out of your ears... also stop letting your 14 year old son run the blog....

either way everything I read points to huge fan base loss and one thing still being said 'take it back to the old style or go home" who likes rakham now??? anyone... Anyone????? not me...

What the heck is this blog. It irritated me so much I actually registered to write about how crap it is. Very unprofessional. It totally put my back up and there is a damn good chance I am not touching this with a barge pole. As a 3.5 player who enjoyed the game I was looking forward to a new Rackham skirmish but not after this pile of shite blog. Not wanting to pay money to a company that practically insults me as a painter. Tried to be humorous - epic fail instead.

29 Jun 2010

Seriously though - come on. Stop with this talk. Its annoying, just make it objective and to the point. Be clear, precise and professional.

Grande homem de trabalho, eu amo todas as coisas bonitas aqui;

24 Jun 2010

I heartily echo Atacam. I too swear off all things Rackham Entertainment. Boycott, if you will. I'm just done with this. This blog put my back up as well. I can no longer stand to watch the Aarklash IP suffer. There was a time when Rackham made the best minis and games on the planet, but that time is past, and the Age of the Red Dragon has closed. May the grand old beast rest in peace.

RE, you should consider selling off the Aarklash IP to another company who will appreciate owning it, since you no longer seem to.

24 Jun 2010

Personally I see nothing wrong with the blog at all! After all it is as juvenile as R's new target audience. Personally after their cotton wool in the ear comments I will never part with any money to help this R get anywhere, which is a pity as I was eyeing a nice lot of Red Blok! And talking of cotton wool, if they would have taken it out of their ears, they may not be in the crap they are in now. And on the subject of crap. The mid nor do not look like crap. Remember you once peddled those minis as great sculpts. Just because you have taken a step backwards in quality it doesn't make your older sculpts crap, be proud of your past don't try and bury it as it will come back to bite you in the arse.

23 Jun 2010

... which is a pity as I was eyeing a nice lot of Red Blok!...

isn't that a juvenile attitude?

23 Jun 2010

I like the informal attitude, but you've just crossed the line.

This post is negative to new and old customers alike. In sum, the information you've portrayed is Lions (purportedly w/new stuff), Ram, and Wolfen are planned for the A&W game.

We all spent some time around that kid in the back of class - making a nuisance of himself. Is it really necessary to BE that guy?

23 Jun 2010

I have to agree with some of the above. I don't know who is translating Jean-Baptiste but it is annoying and more dangerously potentially insulting. Besides, it reads like a bad chinese anime translation. Gregoire needs to take this blog on.

Rackham really must think about this position about making its old customers angry with the "painters are silly" attitude as in this article. I have a lot of metal miniatures and a good portion plastics from both Conf and AT-43.

RE is hemorrhaging money. Let's not spin like Jean-Baptiste. A quick check will tell you most of the metal stuff is going for premium prices while those of PPP are in the 70% section. That is reality.

Next, RE may like to give the obscene finger to a lot of the old players. But a large number are still on the fence about the game. They need better rules. Skirmish was what they were interested in and what is "popular" right now.

Ok. Great if you can have models that can do both but if I have Cynwall or Midnor (I have most factions) then why not make profiles for those guys like in C:AoR?

So if RE decides to not produce MidNor fine... but if I have Midnor metal models and can play the skirmish or CAoR game I might also be tempted to buy another faction (ie PPP) that I don't have. And if they are not then likely they can get a new person playing the game who will buy PPP minis.

RE should not be limiting yourself. You should not be saying "We are not doing this!" Better to say "We are not doing this now."

Next, the games should be targeting all players. Kids have the attention span of a bean. Do you mean adolescents? This would be a better target group. The game should be scalable. So First have some simple level and then an intermediate and perhaps a "challenge" level. Maximum scalability means maximum customers.

I have Devs, Midnor, Lion, Griffon, Dirz, Drunes, Ophids... the lot. I will play C:AoR and Skirmish with all of my models or none of them. Metal or PPP doesn't matter.

How many bullets can one person's foot take?

This is so so so so frustrating. I'm trying to be positive.

23 Jun 2010

...making its old customers angry with the "painters are silly" attitude as in this article...

I think frustration makes jokes on you! Never read a word against miniatures painter on this blog

23 Jun 2010

Well, maybe you should focus more on what mr. jean-baptiste writes, shouldn´t you?

"Not for modelling lovers who must have plenty of time in their hand..."
reads to me as "painters with nothing better to do"
Just to quote this blog entry.

anyway, rackham´s a lost cause, alienating old supporters and potentially new fans left and right, squandering their IP since 2005 through ineptness.
good riddance, jolly hyperactive blogs will only serve to bury you faster.

24 Jun 2010

I hope RE will not make as wait too long for Griffin and Scorpion :D

22 Jun 2010

Aarklash Choking Hazards (awesome or what?) Your wife must have been furious!

22 Jun 2010

nyahahahaha

that's a good one!

22 Jun 2010

I'm actually playing other stuff like warmachine... but Aarklash it's my first love, and Acheron itself was my army.
I don't mind about the pre-plainted-plastic miniatures, if price is honest, I'll buy them. And re-paint them.
But I hope that this game have a good depth, a simple game it's not necessarily stupid. A good game don't need tons of rules to be a good game, and seems that the new Rackham know this...

I'm waiting, pleas tell us!!

21 Jun 2010

If the game is directed to children, many of them will not know warmachine and there will be no problem ... but even a game of easy access, the level of miniatures and rules should be better than their old games, because they will rackham new customers ...

21 Jun 2010

Well it sounds quite good, even though I'm more of a AT-43 player. Anyway, on another note, please change the style of the comments back to a more informative one. I know it sometimes can be hard to be not just all hyper about the own stuff, but somehow this doesn't do the game system justice. I play Rackham games, because I don't want to play a Privateerpress game. If I wanted to do that, I would just do it. Hope you understand what I try to get at.

20 Jun 2010

I think (and agree) that what he means is that using second degree humour on a public blog is risky business, especially when it is badly translated from French. And I guess the reference to WM comes from the sometime OTT juvenile communication that PP has used in the past to convey how 'cool' and 'hype' their games are.

22 Jun 2010

To be blunt, until now I saw Rackham as a rather serious company, no big balls talk and other way exaggerating stuff, like the PP guys do. I don't know why exactly, but I think that doesn't fit the universe and doesn't fit the company. There is not enough standard marvel comic style in there. That's why I think it would improve the articles here if they would just write it blunt and plain and not start off with something like: "Wahay man, enough chit chat! Here comes the biggest game with the biggest balls and it is all just for you!" At least that was the underlying impression I got from the last two posts on AWP. Maybe I'm just getting old, but in, I'd rather have just the information with a slight exaggeration like "this is will be the most awesome game we have ever done" than this wanna be cool style.

22 Jun 2010

"The Lion! Never released before troops...."

and

"Ram! Although for the moment, we don't plan on new releases but variations on already existing ones…"

are two sentences very "awesome or what?"
