Azaël is a magician. Though she doesn’t look like much, she is quite the thorn in your opponent’s side. She is obviously no heavy hitter: Her main job is to summon dispensable fighters. In fact the unit ought to be dispensed with in order for Azaël to summon more! Of course she needs to be equipped with her ever dependable Companion of the Tomb… In matters of artefacts and rituals, Azaël’s choices are rather limited.
For artefacts, one might consider taking the Companion of the tomb, or, why not, the Companion of the tomb, or for those who like ambitious combinations, the Companion of the tomb.
For rituals, the most efficient is without any possible doubt “Macabre Assembly”. The other rituals are more difficult (and all things considered, Azaël is only a rank 1 magician), or less efficient.
In practice what have we got? Two possibilities: defense or attack.
In defense, Azaël summons a unit of Thralls to intercept enemies sent to get her. Once the enemy has been worn down, the magician may step in to finish the job herself. She does know how to fight in hand to hand combat!
In attack, Azaël stays away from the fray and summons her unit directly on the more disagreeable units or on those holding objectives. A unit of Thralls is no outstanding threat but it will weaken the enemy making it an easy prey for others. One problem with this tactic: you will need a reserve of Thralls and Toxic skulls to summon. All the other Skulls are good, but not when summoned by her. What she needs is a type of Skull that hits hard and dies (again) fast. The Toxic Skull is ideal for the job. It causes twice the damage of others thanks to the “Toxic” ability. Since the unit is to be summoned in contact or close to the enemy, its low movement won’t be a problem.
The danger of this tactic: Summoning Thralls on an isolated enemy, which the Thralls destroy, finding themselves isolated without any objective in reach. With a mere 7 cm to move, the problem will engaging another enemy or getting to an objective… within reasonable time.
