As we announced previously, we are working on a skirmish game taking place in the Confrontation universe. So we selected the coolest minis from the range and have been hard at work getting some satisfying results. Project Groundhog (sounds better than Project Manhattan dunnit?) is the result of 13 versions of the coding matrix, 5 series of prototypes, hours of testing, a lot of yelling, countless burned neurons and broken army builds…et voilà. We are getting there. You learn it in 15 minutes and you are off playing games that last between 20 to 40 minutes each.
As I type these words, we’re planning on putting the card prototypes up for free downloadso players can give it a go with the minis they already have. Of course there will be some...
The ultimate test phase in "en route". Rules are done. In At-43 2.0, we keep the main assets of this successful game. Hence, the Universal Table of Resolution remains untouched, as well as the troops stats. However, some rules and game effects were changed or deleted. AT-43 2.0 will give you new rules on indirect fire. A new firing mode will be introduced: Covering Fire. Thanks to that new rule, a shot can force enemy troopers to test their cold blood (ex morale) and maybe get disorganized because of that. All lines of sight are true lines of sight and shall be checked from the miniatures point of view. Sizes indicated on the cards are obsolete. The introduction of "salvos" during hand to hand combat will make multiplayer games even...
What do you mean “What’s this “Aarklash Warpack?”?” What exactly were you doing last week? Did you read anything at all? That’s the official and final name of the famous Project Groundhog! Ok, right, all of you remember what Aarklash Warpack is now?
We have two more sneak peeks this week. One has no use whatsoever but lots of people will dig it; the other has a lot of use but no one will be able to use it for now. Unless of course they’re the gaming equivalent of Sherlock Holmes, able to deduce the way our little wonder works from the tiniest clue. The thing that has a lot of use is the game card prototype and since I’m a sadist, I’ll start with the logo test sheet, because you won’t be able to do much with it aside from organizing bets on “...
We chitchat but in the end, no one told you what armies would be ready for the field test of our brand new game system. Let's start at once by killing a rumor which spreads out like plague in a middle age city. No dwarf nor devourer, no cynwall elves nor cadwallon mercenaries. You want to know why? Because we've gone fully painted plastic because we want an EASY ACCESS and USER FRIENDLY product! I shout because there might be some people with cotton in their ears who might keep asking when they will be able to take their metal minis, you know, the ones they pinned, glued and painted with love and patience and then put on the highest shelf of the cupboard to protect their treasure from the youngest ones I mentioned before. I let my 1 year old girl play with a Mid Nor dwarf....
In April and May 2010, Rackham Entertainment proposes you a scenario contest.
Rules are simple : Imagine a scenario for your favorite game (several applications per player allowed) and our authors will decide which ones deserve to be made official and published on our website.
In 4 years, AT-43 had 6 armies. Among these 6, 2 were only forecast in the first edition books.
Each of them was accompanied with books which allowed you to know them better and moreover to play them better thanks to tactical articles, unit by unit, including heroes of this military forces.
Today, AT-43 hasn't escaped the consequences of a multiple-years long development of a wargame: some troops are underated – mostly because they didn't take advantage of the ideas that occured in the following army books – and some rules need to be revised to reach a better balance of the game and more interesting and deep games.
The concept team has been working on this project for a few months. The results are in. The list of changes to come on the game is set up....
Unbelievable! A clap of thunder in the clear blue sky of “project Groundhog”. We submitted this name, selected on very strict quality criteria, to several of our numerous international consulting groups – we have about ten of those working for us, give or take ten. We also set up a worldwide survey among roughly 2.3 million individuals – give or take 2,299,990… And 100% of the answers were: that’s a stupid name. Find another one or we’ll sack you.
Well, it was a stupid name all right. That’s the whole reason we’d gone for it. So we had to gather a think tank of world-renowned experts, selected on the following criterion: they were the ten best specialists of this game. Wasn’t so hard: all of them work for Rackham Entertainment.
Army books have been revised to fulfill the needs of the new edition of AT-43. Tests with these new lists, built around army boxes are taking all our time. Dice roll between coantainers and vehicles. They hustle miniatures like stray bullets from murderous salvos. It is time for us to tell you more. From now on, each army is built around Army boxes and other references are considered as add-ons to these boxes. We will deal more with that later, but we cannot resist the temptation to give you sneak peeks right now!
UNA:
• Borz can call for artillery strikes able to threaten... C3s ! • Newton acts faster but also more often than other heros. • Stark gets freed from his Promise disadvantage...
AT-43 won't change its name. We're still 43 years after the Trauma. Nevertheless, it will be possible to choose a conflict zone that will allow to play with allies from other armies.
Making evolve the timeline would give the false impression that older armies have a richer background than recent ones. By keeping the universe in AT-43, we privilege the opening of conflicts to new strategic and narrative possibilities.
In AT-43 2.0, the various forces are all equal in AT-43 because no one escapes war.
Cyanide, creators of Blood Bowl, and Rackham Entertainment proudly announce their partnership in order to release a video game on the Confrontation licence scheduled for the Autumn 2011.
